Our university is named after French writer and traveller from the Renaissance Michel de Montaigne. Besides his duties as member of the Parliament of Bordeaux and mayor of the city, he wrote only one book, The Essays, but this work still resonates with modernity nowadays; we are proud to claim that our research follows on from the humanist values it fosters.
