The first vines were planted South of Bordeaux 2000 years ago. Since then, the vineyard has developped and thrived and covers the countryside all around the metropolis. 80% of the production is red wine, but thanks to very rich and diverse combinations of ground composition and weather conditions, the area also produces rosé, dry and sweet whites as well as sparkling wine. Some of the finest and most famous vineyard regions include the Médoc (red), Saint-Emilion (red), the Graves (red and dry white), Sauternes and Barsac (sweet white), Entre-Deux-Mers (white).
The Tourist Information Centre organises half-day and day bus trips to the vineyard.
